Early Literacy

Numerous studies have shown the importance of the development of reading and literacy skills at an early age. The link to the Early Literacy Activity Calendar Early Literacy Calendar English, Early Literacy Calendar Spanish provides a calendar with daily activities parents and caregivers can do with their little ones to help develop these skills. The 1000 Books Link explains this program further and answers the most frequently asked questions about the program.

Come join us for an hour full of fun! Sing-a-longs, simple crafts, and fun stories geared for pre-school children.

  • Tiny Tot Tales is on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM  (up to 9 months of age)
  • Story Time  is on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM (10 months - 5 yrs)

These programs help children develop their literacy and reading skills prior to beginning school and help their parents, grandparents, and caregivers learn ways to further develop those skills at home.

Studies also show the availability of books in the home and reading are major indicators of future success in school, and in life. The library allows families to freely borrow books rather than families having to purchase those books.

Additionally, learning does not start when we begin school nor end when we complete school. The library provides many avenues to continue to learn no matter one's age - from the manipulatives, toys, and games for our youngest patrons to materials, computers, and programs for almost everyone else.
